On this site you can not only read information and the results of my scientific research, but more importantly, you can learn about the Rusyns and Rusyn Studies (language, language-history, bibliography, periodicals), which is the science of the present and past of a small European people, who have been settling for centuries on the southern slopes of the Carpathian Mountains. You can find Rusyns in today´s Central and Eastern European countries, such as Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, the Ukraine, and even in other European and overseas countries where many have emigrated.
The goal of this blog is to broaden your knowledge of this small people group. You can also find here a collection of original Rusyn texts, which I have collected.
I was born in 1957 in the Czech village of Noviny in Volhynia to a family of emigrants from Slovakia. Since 1966 I have lived with my parents in Subcarpathia.
I finished school in Uzhgorod, and from 1976 to 1977 I worked in shipbuilding industry in the Soviet Union (Vyborg, Astrakhan, Leningrad, Kiev and Nikolaev).
From 1977 to 1979 I served in the Red Army as a gunner and as a radio operator in the airforce (in Siberia and the Ural Mountains).
I studied at the universities of Uzhgorod (Faculty of Philology, 1983-86) and Leningrad (Faculty of Journalism, 1983-86).
From 1986 on I have been teaching at the Russian Department of the National University of Uzhgorod. I have been working in Hungary since 1997.
I am a Candidate of Sciences (Kiev, 1997), and am a lecturer in the Department of Ukrainian and Rusyn studies at the College of Nyíregyháza. I have authored publications on Eastern-Slavonic studies (derivation), the history of the Rusyn language, periodicals and bibliographies.
From 1983 I worked for several years with television and radio companies in Uzhgorod (first producer of Slovak radio-broadcasts in the Ukraine), Leningrad and Kiev.
I am married and we have two sons.
